Cleaning and Repairing Your Clothes Dryer the DIY Way

Eventually every clothes dryer will get to a point where it needs to be repaired. We’d rather have that later than sooner, but like everything else around us, a dryer will fail as well. Be it the engine, the vent, or any other part of it, you might need to repair it or replace it.

The first thing you need to make sure is that it is not any longer in its warranty period Dryer Repair Los Angeles. If it is, then you can change it for a new one so you’d better not touch it at all. However if it is no longer covered by warranty and you have some technical knowledge, you could attempt to repair it on your own. Hence the DIY way. However make sure that you have the booklet that came with the machine when you bought it new, as it’s your manual, your guide for everything. Without it you are kind of stuck. Although what you could also do is visit the website of the manufacturer and if available, download a pdf version of the owner’s manual. In many cases this helped.

But now onto some of the problems you might encounter with your dryer.

For example one very common problem is that it takes longer than usual to dry the clothes. In this case you need to check the lint filter as it can be that lint has somehow escaped through the lint trap and it has built enough that it makes working the machine slower. If you find it’s dirty you need to clean it. Also make sure to include it in your regular drying routine. You need to clean the filter at least every 2-3 weeks.

The second place you might want to look at is your vent hose. This is the tube that vents hot and humid air out of the back of the dryer. It could be clogged and full of lint as well, in which case you also need to clean it. First unhook it from the dryer and then proceed to clean it.

Something more difficult to check up on is problems at the back of the dryer. You need to take off the back and check to see what else could be. However don’t attempt to do this unless you know what you’re doing as taking off the back is not so easy as it seems. There are sharp edges to deal with, various wires to disconnect, so there are lots of things. Not difficult but tricky for a first timer.

Alternatively some other places to look for problems can be the engine and the belt. However these are really advanced placed to look into by yourself and it is really recommended that you call somebody that specializes in cleaning and repairing appliances instead of attempting it on your own.
